Returns Policy:

1. Overview and your legal rights

MX5 Parts Australia (ABN 14 529 601 178) sells automotive parts on the strict conditions below. Please read this policy before you buy. By placing an order, you agree to it.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Nothing in this policy limits those rights. Everything else, including change-of-mind returns and any extra warranty we offer, is provided only on the terms set out here.

2. Change-of-mind returns

We are not required to accept change-of-mind returns. We may accept one at our sole discretion, and only if every condition below is met:

  • The return is requested within 14 days of purchase or delivery.
  • The part has not been fitted, installed, test-fitted, wired up, filled with fluid or otherwise used.
  • The part is in new, resaleable condition, in its original, undamaged, unmarked packaging with all components, instructions and seals intact.
  • You provide the original invoice or order number.
  • You pay all freight costs, both ways. Original delivery charges are not refunded.
  • The item is not listed as non-returnable in section 3.

Accepted change-of-mind returns attract a 20% restocking and handling fee. Refunds are issued to the original payment method or as store credit, at our discretion, once the part has been inspected. We may refuse any return that fails inspection, and it will be sent back at your cost.

3. Non-returnable items

The following items cannot be returned for change of mind, incorrect selection or because they are no longer needed. Your Australian Consumer Law rights for genuinely faulty goods still apply.

  • Electrical and electronic parts, including sensors, ECUs, modules, relays, switches, ignition components and wiring harnesses, once the packaging has been opened.
  • Special-order, back-order or custom-ordered parts sourced specifically for you.
  • Clearance, discontinued or "sold as is" items.
  • Fluids, oils, chemicals, filters, gaskets, seals and other consumables.
  • Any part that has been fitted, installed, test-fitted, modified, painted, cut or machined.
  • Any part returned without its original packaging, or with packaging written on, taped or damaged.
  • Gift cards and freight charges.

4. Professional installation requirement

All parts must be installed by a qualified, licensed motor mechanic or auto electrician, operating from a registered workshop, in accordance with the vehicle and part manufacturer's specifications. Any warranty we offer in addition to your consumer guarantees is conditional on this.

To lodge any warranty or fault claim, you must supply:

  1. A tax invoice from the installing workshop showing its business name, ABN, the installer's name, the vehicle's registration, VIN and odometer reading, and the date of fitting.
  2. A written diagnostic report from that workshop describing the fault and how it was diagnosed.
  3. Where applicable, evidence that related components were inspected or replaced at the same time as the manufacturer requires (for example, flushing the cooling system, replacing a clutch slave cylinder, or checking the charging system when fitting a starter or alternator).

Where a part has been installed by a non-qualified person, including the vehicle owner, we will treat any failure as likely caused by incorrect installation unless you can show otherwise. Failures caused by incorrect fitting, incorrect torque, contamination, or failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions are not faults in the part and are not covered.

5. Faulty parts and warranty claims

If you believe a part is faulty, stop using it and contact us before removing it, where it is safe to do so. Claims are assessed as follows:

  1. Contact us first. Email builtbykyle1@gmail.com with your invoice number, photos of the part and its fitment, and the documents listed in section 4. Do not send parts back without a Return Authorisation (RA) number. Parts sent without an RA may be refused.
  2. Return for inspection. The part must be returned to us, cleaned of excess oil and grease, with all its components. We may send it to the manufacturer or supplier for testing. This can take up to 10 business days.
  3. Assessment. If the part is found faulty, we will repair, replace or refund it in line with the Australian Consumer Law. If no fault is found, or the failure was caused by installation, misuse or another component, the part will be returned to you and we may charge a testing fee of $135 per hour plus return freight.
  4. No pre-emptive replacements. We do not supply a replacement part until the claim is assessed, unless you purchase the replacement outright. If the original claim is approved, we will refund that purchase.

Our additional warranty period is 30 days from the date of purchase, unless the part's manufacturer states otherwise.

6. What is not covered

A part is not faulty, and no warranty claim will be accepted, where the failure results from:

  • Incorrect installation or installation by a non-qualified person.
  • Use of incorrect fluids, lubricants, coolant or fuel, or contamination of any system.
  • Failure of, or damage from, another component in the vehicle (for example, a failed alternator caused by a faulty battery, or a failed clutch caused by a leaking rear main seal).
  • Accident, abuse, neglect, overloading, racing, off-road or competition use, or use outside the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Modification of the part or the vehicle, including performance tuning.
  • Normal wear and tear on wear items such as brake pads, rotors, clutches, belts, bushes and wiper blades.
  • Parts used on a vehicle or application other than the one they were sold for.
  • Commercial, fleet or hire use, unless agreed in writing at the time of sale.

7. Labour, towing and other costs

Our additional warranty covers the part only. To the extent permitted by law, we do not pay for removal or refitting labour, diagnostic fees, towing, hire cars, accommodation, loss of income or any other cost arising from a part failure.

Where the Australian Consumer Law requires us to compensate you for a reasonably foreseeable loss caused by a genuine fault in a part we supplied, we will do so. Any such claim must be:

  • Approved in writing by us before the work is done.
  • Supported by itemised invoices from a qualified workshop.
  • Limited to the manufacturer's standard labour time for that job at a reasonable hourly rate.

Costs incurred without our prior written approval may not be reimbursed.

8. Ordering the correct part

You are responsible for confirming the correct part before purchase and before fitting. Fitment guides, catalogues and staff advice are a guide only, because vehicles can vary by build date, market and previous modifications.

  • Always supply your VIN, registration and build date when ordering. Where you do not, we accept no responsibility for incorrect fitment.
  • Your installer must compare the new part against the old part before fitting. A part that has been fitted is no longer returnable as an incorrect part.
  • Where we supplied the wrong part for the vehicle details you gave us, we will exchange it at no cost, provided it is unused and in its original packaging.
  • Where you or your installer selected the wrong part, section 2 (change-of-mind) applies, including the restocking fee.

9. How to lodge a return or claim

  1. Email builtbykyle1@gmail.com with your invoice number and the reason for the return.
  2. Wait for your Return Authorisation (RA) number and return instructions.
  3. Send the part, well packed, with the RA number and invoice copy, to PO Box 370, Eumundi QLD 4562. Use a tracked service; we are not responsible for parts lost or damaged in return transit.
  4. We will inspect the part and contact you with the outcome.

Business customers: if you buy parts for resale or to re-supply in the course of a business, the consumer guarantees may not apply to that purchase, and our trade account terms govern.

This policy was last updated on 18 October 2026. We may update it from time to time; the version in place at the time of your purchase applies.
